Kansas Corporation Commission Approves Settlement Agreement for Atmos Rate Increase

Topeka, KS - Today, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) issued an order approving a $2.22 million annual revenue increase in energy rates for Atmos Energy Corp. customers. Citing revenue deficiencies based upon normalized operating expenses, Atmos Energy's initial application requested a revenue increase of $6.6 million. A settlement agreement proposed in January reduced the request to $2.22 million.

The Commission denied approval to implement a System Integrity Program (SIP) tariff for the advanced replacement of aging and obsolete pipeline infrastructure, preferring instead to defer consideration to another docket currently pending before the Commission. Commissioner Shari Feist Albrecht dissented on denying the SIP.

Atmos Energy serves roughly 131,000 customers in Kansas. The Kansas Corporation Commission regulates public utilities including natural gas, electric companies, and oil and gas producers. The Commission's regulatory oversight of public utilities primarily pertains to rates and terms of service. In order to ensure that customers of regulated utilities are provided sufficient and efficient service at just and reasonable rates, jurisdictional utilities may not change retail rates without Commission approval.
