Johnson County receives Governor's Energy Award

Johnson County received the Governor’s Energy Recognition Award in Energy Efficiency for its Sunset Drive Office Building at the Kansas Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Conference held in Topeka. The Johnson County Sunset Drive Office Building, a high-performance facility designed to be very efficient is only the second building in the State of Kansas to receive a LEED® Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council.

A high degree of adaptability and flexibility has been provided through the building’s moveable and changeable floor, wall and ventilation systems. The building has been designed and constructed to be extremely energy efficient from its highly insulated skin to its state of the art heating and air conditioning systems.

The Sunset Drive building’s energy costs are 43 percent less than the County Administration Building in Downtown Olathe.

The $30 million Sunset Drive Office Building was procured and designed to exist in harmony with the site, its neighbors and the environment for the health of its occupants and for the good of the community.

Public spaces provide maximum convenience for building visitors as well as serves as a buffer to private office areas. This private office zone is completely flexible, featuring demountable wall systems for expansion and contraction of departments and maximum natural light.

The building plan also includes a demonstration garden, irrigated by roof run-off, to be used for educational exhibits and as an outdoor gathering space.
