Kansas Energy Office to Receive $9.5 Million for Energy Efficiency and Conservation

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Thursday an award of $9,593,500 to the State Energy Office under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.

"As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this money will create jobs by supporting energy efficiency and conservation projects in our state," said Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.

The Kansas Energy Office will award grants to local units of government for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions as well as improve energy efficiency.

"This is an excellent opportunity for local governments to identify energy conservation and efficiency improvements that can be made to their buildings and invest in alternative energies," said Ray Hammarlund, Director of the State Energy Office.
