"Home appliances are a major contributor to Kansans' monthly utility bills," said KCC Chairman, Thomas Wright. "By replacing outdated appliances with new energy efficient models, Kansans can save money." The rebate program will help Kansans purchase new Energy Star qualified home appliances and will be administered by the State Energy Office (SEO), a division of the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC). States have the flexibility to determine which residential Energy Star qualified appliances to include in the program. Energy Star qualified appliance categories eligible for rebates include: central air conditioners, heat pumps, broilers, furnaces, room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, and water heaters. Kansas will receive 10 percent of the funds after submitting an initial application on August 15th expressing the state's intention to participate in the program. A full application is due on October 15th, and the balance will be awarded upon program approval. DOE expects program approval to occur by November 30th. |
