Media AdvisoryFor more information contact: Abbie Hodgson, 785-271-3269 September 14, 2009 MEDIA ADVISORY: KCC to hold public hearing Wednesday on MKEC rate caseThe Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) will hold a public hearing in Liberal, Kansas on Wednesday, September 16th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to address the $16.4 million retail rate increase request filed by Mid-Kansas Electric Company (MKEC). Southwest Medical Center Customers not wishing to travel may participate by videoconference at four other community sites. Dighton Clyde Dodge City Ellsworth The public hearing will consist of two parts. During the first part of the hearing, MKEC will explain their request. MKEC, KCC staff, and a representative from Citizens’ Utility Ratepayer Board (CURB) will be present to answer questions. During the second part of the hearing, the three member commission will take formal comments from the public regarding MKEC's application. MKEC customers unable to attend the public hearing may submit comments to the KCC through November 19, 2009. Written comments regarding the proposed rate increases should reference Docket No. 09-MKEE-969-RTS and be sent to: Kansas Corporation Commission Comments may also be submitted by e-mail at or by calling 1.800.662.0027. The Commission will hold an evidentiary hearing on MKEC’s rate request beginning November 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kansas Corporation Commission, First Floor Hearing Room, 1500 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka.
