About the Application

ITC submitted an application on March 2, 2010 to build a new 85-mile long transmission line from Hays in Ellis County, north through Rooks, Osborne, and Smith Counties to the Kansas-Nebraska border (view map). ITC estimates that it will cost $92.2 million to build and that construction should be complete no later than June 1, 2013.

This is the second phase of a three phase project. The KCC approved phase one, the building of a 345 kV transmission line from Spearville, Kansas to Hays, Kansas, in July 2009. Phase three, which will run from the Kansas-Nebraska border to Axtell, Nebraska, will be built by the Nebraska Public Power District.

A complete copy of ITC's application and supporting testimony is available at: http://estar.kcc.ks.gov/estar/portal/kcc/PSC/DocketDetails.aspx?DocketId=1ff15ff6-b158-4b53-84d0-7af2350e7f8e. An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for May 19th in Topeka, and the KCC must issue an order by June 30th.
